Christy Schuler has video tutorials of her retouching techniques, which are on the advanced side and give professional results. Her Skin tutorial involves copying the face, using a surface blur (soft light layer), and then adding in the texture with a high pass layer on soft light. The net result of this is removing colored splotches from skin, and replacing that with the texture of the skin without the changes in color. This makes it still look real even after you have made the skin flawless.
