This is still one of the more difficult aspects of the strobist exercises for me. This picture is only window lit. IN this case the sun is the soft light coming through the blind, and I am balancing with the hard light from flash as opposed to balancing hard sunlight with hard flashlight.
This picture is a balance of flash and sunlight.
The third picture shows how you can overpower the sun with the flash.
