Every year there are 2 days where the sun directly aligns with the "east-west" streets of Manhattan. I believe last year it was on July 12th, though even now the sun can be seen directly when you drive down the streets at that hour. While this makes for difficult driving, it does create photo opportunities that are only available twice a year. If you are near a scenic East-West street, this is your chance for the perfect sunset photo.

This year it will be July 11th and 12th, since we already missed the May 30th and 31st.
I suspect the perfect place for this will be Tudor city overlooking 42nd street.
