I haven't been able to take many pictures lately, especially meaningful ones, but I did find a website that is offering much more information from a much more knowledgable source, while still explaining all the basic details. The blog is Lighting Essentials, and though I haven't read it all, what I have read seems extremely thorough. This article describes in great detail the difference between a shoot through and a bounce umbrella.
I will make regular references to this site since there is much more expertise here than I can offer.
